The author surveys cases drawn from the files of the Greek Society for Psychical Research and uses them to discuss the history of psychic phenomena reports, precognition, telepathic suggestion, the history of the “evil eye”, and possible psychokinetic influences on plants, animals, and on human beings.

He also reviews the notion of repressed impulses as a motivational force behind spontaneous expressions of psychokinesis. A long discussion of luck, in general, and in gambling situations is also included, as is an examination of the relationship of psychokinesis to one’s ability to protect one’s self from harm and to faith.

The monograph is a translation of Le Destin et al Chance: In Psychobolie Humaine published by the author, who was both a physician and an Admiral in the Greek Navy. The translation was originally published as an expression of “respect and esteem for him as a living symbol of the great traditions of psychical research to which modern parapsychology is heir.”
